Flyers acquire D Carle from Lightning

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers acquired defenseman Matt Carle on Friday from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for defenseman Steve Eminger and forward Steve Downie.

The Flyers also acquired the San Jose Sharks' third-round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, and sent Tampa Bay's fourth-round pick in the 2009 draft back to the Lightning. Philadelphia had acquired Tampa Bay's fourth-round pick in a June trade for the rights to Vaclav Prospal.

The 24-year-old Carle recorded a goal and an assist in 12 games for the Lightning this season. In 163 career NHL games over the last four seasons, Carle has registered 17 goals and 48 assists. Carle has also played for the Sharks throughout his time in the NHL.

Eminger, 25, has registered six goals and 39 assists in 224 regular season games with the Capitals and the Flyers.

In 38 regular season games with the Flyers, Downie has tallied six goals and six assists.
